are pre-built systems specifically designed to play video games. While they aren’t typically as powerful as gaming PCs, they still pack serious punch with great graphics, smooth gameplay, and dedicated services that allow gamers to easily connect to one another, download games, play together, and more.
The two most popular consoles, the PS4 and the Xbox One, come from Sony and Microsoft. Coming up in third place is Nintendo with the Wii U and Switch platforms.
The PS4 is one of the best-selling consoles of all time with more than 47 million units sold since its release in 2013. The platform is also home to a number of popular exclusive titles including Days Gone, Horizon Zero Dawn, The Last of Us, and Uncharted 4.
The PlayStation 4 is now available in a number of different configurations including the original PS4, the PS4 Slim, and now the PS4 Pro, a substantially more powerful version of the initial console with enhanced graphics and a larger hard drive.

Microsoft’s most recent console, the Xbox One, is also selling relatively well. According to various reports from analysts it is estimated that roughly 20 million units have been sold since the console launched back in 2013. While it hasn’t quite caught up to the PlayStation 4, it has been outselling it in recent months.
The Xbox One also comes in a couple different editions. The standard console is the original Xbox One with a 500GB hard drive. A newer, slimmer model known as the Xbox One S was released in August of 2016 with a thinner frame, better graphics, 4k capabilities, and more.

Nintendo recently announced a brand new hybrid console called the Nintendo Switch. This is an intriguing system that gives gamers the freedom to play their favorite video games both from home and while on the go.
The Switch features an innovative design based around a game pad. The tablet-like pad can be seated in a dock and connected to a TV to be played like any other home video game console. It can also be detached and taken outside the home as a mobile gaming unit.
The Switch is similar to the Nvidia Shield gaming tablet in many ways. The biggest differences are that it can be placed in its base to operate as a standard home console or detached for mobile use. The controllers are also attached to the pad, but detach from the unit for gameplay.
Nintendo hasn’t given us an official release date, price, or any other further details regarding the system, though. We do know, however, that it will have a large supporting cast from 3rd party publishers and developers including Havok, Epic Games, Bethesda, Electronic Arts, Square Enix, and more.
