Best PS4 Games for Couples Looking to Connect via Gaming

You already know the saying… a couple that plays together, stays together.

Best PS4 Games for Couples

What better way to connect with your significant other than to cozy up and dive into a beloved pastime for both you and your special someone? Gaming has come a long, long way over the years. An industry that was once dominated by a male user-base is now practically split evenly between men and women.

Female gamers are only becoming more and more common. And what guy doesn’t absolutely adore a chick that loves to explore the vast, open worlds of RPGs or absolutely slay it on a popular FPS title? This is a coveted personality trait – no doubt about it.

The biggest challenge is finding games that both you and your bae can enjoy together. Today, we’re going to talk about some of the best PlayStation 4 titles that will wet your appetite for gaming as a couple.

Best PS4 Games for Couples

First and foremost, you need to determine what your common preferences are when it comes to gaming. Not everyone is a fan of popular franchises and not everyone enjoys the same game genre. Hopefully, though, you and your bae will have some common ground.

That being said… let’s talk about what games are best to play as a couple in the biggest genres.

Best RPG

Do both of you love exploring huge, immersive worlds where a lot of the thrill is associated with discovery and questing? If so, you’ll likely want to indulge in a well-made role-playing game.

These games are designed for the adventurer-at-heart. They often feature massive environments with little to no restrictions when it comes to moving around. They’re also typically some of the most story-driven titles available.

So, which RPGs for the PS4 are great for playing together?

Destiny Game

Destiny is an FPS-MMO-RPG. Yup, quite the mouthful, but, in all honesty, it’s a fantastic game to get into if you’re looking for a fantasy-themed shooter that offers co-op play. The RPG elements of the game are a little repetitive at times, but the game plays smooth, has tons of content, and it’s super easy to find other couples to play with as well.

Borderlands The Handsome Collection

Borderlands is a lot like Destiny, but it has a more cartoonish art style, more humor, and, to be perfectly upfront, a much better grinding system. It’s hilarious, wacky, and provides hours upon hours of fun. The Handsome Collection actually comes with both Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel and Borderlands 2 so you’re getting a lot of game for your buck here. Definitely a fun title to run with your girlfriend or boyfriend.

Okay, Minecraft isn’t technically an RPG, but if you have a bit of an imagination and actually play through the survival mode – not just the creative building mode – it does have some story to it and it can be an absolute blast. If you find that the survival element of the game isn’t for you, no worries, you’ll still sink a ton of time into it just building ridiculous fortresses, detailed homes, and more together.

The Elder Scrolls V Skyrim

Skyrim doesn’t feature a co-op mode, but it’s an insanely addictive game that most RPG enthusiasts enjoy thoroughly. Just because you’ll have to take turns at the controls doesn’t mean you won’t have a great time. Exploring the huge, highly detailed lands, completing lengthy and engaging quests, and fighting for your lives against dragons never gets old. Skyrim is definitely a must-have for couples that want to game together.

Fallout 4

Fallout 4 is, in many ways, similar to Skyrim, only it’s set in a more futuristic and post-apocalyptic universe. In this RPG you’ll get to stroll through the ruins of Boston, defend yourself against mutants, giant bugs, and radioactive zombies, and complete tons of quests. Again, like Skyrim, there’s no official co-op mode for the game, but it’s still fun to enjoy with your significant other.

Best MMO

MMOs are similar to RPGs, but often support multiplayer on a much larger scale.

The Elder Scrolls Online

In our opinion, if you’re looking for a great MMORPG to play on the PS4, you can’t really beat The Elder Scrolls Online (ESO). The game has a ton of content, looks  great, and is a ton of fun to play. While it has the Elder Scrolls name attached to it – don’t think of it as a Skyrim or Oblivion type game. It’s quite different, but it still manages to captivate you and suck you in with a great story line, phenomenal voice acting, and buttery smooth gameplay.

Final Fantasy XIV A Realm Reborn

If you’re looking for an MMO that’s close to World of Warcraft we highly recommend trying out Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn (often shortened to just FFXIV or FF14). The game features intense raids, open world battles, PvP, and other elements that will let WoW players feel right at home.

Warframe is a free-to-play, third-person shooter MMORPG. Players take on the persona of a Tenno, a special warrior designed to fight the evil forces attempting to destroy the universe. The graphics aren’t fantastic on this one, but the story is very interesting, characters are insanely customizable, and there’s a lot to do. Plus, unlike other F2P titles, microtransactions are completely unnecessary and purely cosmetic.

Planetside 2 PS4

Planetside 2 is also a F2P MMO. It’s a large, first-person space-age shooter. The game has great maps, combat is extremely satisfying, and there are always loads of people to play with. If you’re a fan of shooters and large-scale battles, PS2 is definitely worth trying out.

Best FPS

Do both you and your bae love to blast virtual people in the face with guns? Then you’ll definitely want to look into getting a great first-person shooter. This is an insanely popular genre with many, many games to choose from.

Below we reveal which PS4 FPS games which think are best for couples to play.

Overwatch is one of the more recent FPS releases for the PS4. It’s a team-centered game with a unique mix of playable characters with varying abilities, great visuals, and highly addictive gameplay. There’s a reason you hear so much about it – it’s an absurdly popular and beloved title. Overwatch is fantastic for couples that appreciate a well-made FPS.

Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege

Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege is more of a tactical shooter. It focuses heavily on teamwork, creativity, and ingenuity. If you love developing defensive and offensive strategies, this is definitely a shooter you and your loved one will get plenty of entertainment from.

Black Ops 3

Call of Duty is by far the most successful FPS franchise of all time. Black Ops 3 is the latest installment of the series (although Infinite Warfare releases later this year). If you’re a fan of fast-paced shooting action, CoD will definitely wet your appetite. Both the online multiplayer and the campaign modes have split-screen available so you and your significant other can participate in all aspects of the game together.

Battlefield 4

Battlefield is another big-name FPS franchise. Unlike Call of Duty, though, this one is more about teamwork than going lone-wolf. It has much larger maps, most game modes are objective-based, there are vehicles, and the action is much more realistic. Battlefield 4 is a popular choice, but Battlefield 1 is also an excellent game to pick up.

DOOM is a science-fiction FPS with a darker, more violent feel to it. If you don’t mind a bit of gore and the idea of fighting in the bowels of hell, it’s a pretty decent FPS for the PS4 that will have both you and your bae on the edge of your seats throughout every match.

Best Racing Game

Are you and your girl more into cars than guns or fantasy universes? Don’t worry, the gaming industry hasn’t left you out. There are some seriously great games that allow you to get behind the wheel of some of the fastest, most powerful vehicles in the world or even dreamt up cars.

Here are the racing games for PS4 that we think are the most fun for couples:

Rocket League

Rocket League isn’t your typical racing title. Rather than jumping in high-speed Ferraris and Aston Martins players are put into RC-car looking vehicles, thrown onto a virtual soccer field, hockey rink, or basketball court, and tasked with pushing a giant ball into a goal. It may sound odd, but it’s probably the most entertaining car-based game you and your lover will ever play on the PS4.

F1 2016

F1 2016 snaps us back into reality with a more realistic and simulator-style racing game. It’s all about jumping behind the wheel of a formula one car and racing around tracks against AI or real-life opponents. Featuring more than 21 different tracks, 22 of the most recognized names in F1 racing, and smooth gameplay, this is a great racer for couples that appreciate formula one.

Need for Speed

If you’re looking for more of an arcade-style racing experience, you can’t go wrong with the tried and true racing offered in Need for Speed for PlayStation 4. The game lets you explore a sprawling urban environment, take some of the world’s fastest cars out for a spin, and just have an absolute blast putting the pedal to the metal. It’s perfect for individual players as well as couples.

Project Cars

Want a truly realistic racing game? If you and your bae appreciate realism over all else then Project Cars will certainly be a racer title you’ll want to add to your collection. This is a real racing simulator with incredibly realistic physics, a great lineup of cars, a bigger variety of game modes, and just an overall superb driving experience.
